I live at 1034 Franklin Ave (Crowhaven), my neighbor has apparently been
breeding pit bulls for at least a year in his house. Last winter and thru
this summer, they have been barking incessantly most nights. It was very
difficult during the winter as they are kept outside and were, from the
sound of it, in pain from the cold.
The problem is that i dont believe he actually lives at the house, there
hasnt been electricity there since Katrina.
Saturday, the dogs broke thru a board at the base of his house and got into
my yard. There was no way for them to get out, kinduv. After knocking
several times at his door (even tho i knew no one would be there) and
getting in tough with the neighbor on the other side, i called the SPCA.
before an animal control officer showed up, they had broken thru the wooden
fence behind my house and got into my other neighbor's yard (Adam Farrington
on St. Claude). I phoned him and he also phoned the SPCA. this was the third
time they had gotten into his yard. a control officer showed up almost
immediately after that.
Trying to make a long story short, the officer called in for assistance and
another officer soon arrived. Turns out both have been to my street corner
before to deal with these dogs.
My neighbor showed up just as things looked like the officers would be able
to get a handle on the dogs. He caught them both separately, after forcing
open a door on the side of the other neighbor and opening and entering my
garage door himself (it is now bolted shut), and was allowed to keep the
dogs. He was cited by the officers and told to keep them indoors until he
could secure his own yard.
Well, this morning when i got out of the shower, the dogs were making alot
of noise....in my yard. Again I went next door and knocked and shouted that
his dogs were in my yard. I had learned where he worked this past Saturday
so i tried calling there (they weren't yet open). So, I called SPCA again.
While i was waiting for someone to show up, my neighbor appeared and cajoled
the dogs back into his yard (he couldnt get into mine anymore) put them into
the house and left.
After he was gone, the SPCA officer showed up and was soon joined by 3 cars
of National Guardsmen. . . The control officer could do nothing since they
were back on the neighbor's property and he was no longer home. He told me
to call him back if i see my neighbor at home, that they're going to take
the dogs. I dont want to go home. I dont want to be that guy who keeps
calling the police. It's very uncomfortable because I live by myself in the
last house before St. Claude and usually when i get home from work, there's
a ton of kids (not a one of them can even be 20 years old yet) sitting on
his stoop (and mine) smoking and littering.
