NoLA Rising is proud to present the last day of a silent art auction at the
U.S. Mint. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., art from over sixty artists will be on
display for bidding. Auction Bids close at 3 p.m. Today (Saturday). The
U.S. Mint can be found in the French Quarter at 400 Esplanade Avenue.
Proceeds of the auction will go to benefit a new mural arts program in the
City of New Orleans. Believing that art is one of the key elements of
culture in New Orleans, NoLA Rising is proposing a major mural arts program
to beautify our city and honor our past.

Artists include Banksy, Shepard Fairey, El Celso, Starhead, Dr. Bob, Robert
Guthrie, Jenny Colby, Mia Kaplan, Joe Russo, Dave Warnke, Mori, Jim Flynn,
Scott Moseley, Ray Noland, Justin Hampton, Ken Kehan, Michael DeFeo, Ken
Cowgill, Tony Nozero, Karen Miller & the delightful Crista Rock

When Lafcadio Hearn moved to New Orleans in the 1870s, he wrote to a friend
back in Cincinnati:

"Times are not good here. The city is crumbling into ashes. It has been
buried under a lava flood of taxes and frauds and maladministrations so that
it has become only a study for archaeologists. Its condition is so bad that
when I write about it, as I intend to do soon, nobody will believe I am
telling the truth. But it is better to live here in sackcloth and ashes,
than to own the whole state of Ohio."
