Earlier today I sent out an email regarding problems the Hookah Cafe is
having with licensing. I urged Marigny residents to email the FMIA and ask
them to support a Conditional Use zoning change for the Hookah Cafe.
Chris Costello, president of the FMIA sent me an email to let me know that I
had made incorrect and inflammatory statements about the FMIA.
"The FMIA has not taken a position on your new application for a cocktail
lounge license. We follow a process that allows people, whether members or
not, to voice their opinions in a constructive manner, solicit opinions at
our membership meetings and look at the laws that pertain to the issue at
hand."
This misunderstanding seems to be due to a miscommunication, and is
completely my fault. My apologies for leading any of you astray.
Personally, it is import for me to send out this apology because Chris and
the FMIA has been very helpful in the past and it was not my intention to
insult anyone.
Also, some people have sent angry emails to the FMIA. Please keep in mind it
is not their fault that I am operating an establishment that requires a bar
license in a space that is currently zoned as a restaurant. We need to
enlist their help, not hurl insults at them.
Does this mean that the Hookah Cafe will remain open? I hope so, but
unfortunately the forces are currently aligned against us. I will keep you
all updated as I know more.
Sincerely,
Gil
