Attached is the New Orleans Citizens Against Crime (NOCAC)
contact sheet. It lists helpful contact information for dealing with crime
issues in this city such as City Council, News and Press Agencies, City
Organizations, Blogs, Independent Crime Watch Information, etc. Please save
this and use it as necessary to involve others in crime information.

 

Also, here is a list of Safety Tips to help you as you move
about town:

 

1) Walk in groups whenever possible

 

2) Stay off your cell phone on the way to your vehicle and
pay attention to your surroundings

 

3) If you are mugged, give up your items and try to be a
good witness. While many people notice pants and shirts of suspects, these
items are often the most immediately changed. A tip is to notice their shoes,
as many bad guys wear the same shoes.

 

4) Walk with your car keys between your fingers, sharp end
pointed between your fingers to use as a weapon of self defense. If you do
indeed "claw" a bad guy with your keys, save them their DNA will be
left on the keys.

 

5) If attacked, a quick self defense move is to shove your
fingernail up the attacker's cuticle. It causes a quick amount of pain.

 

6) Also if attacked, you can what is called a Brachial Stun

7) Purchase a referee whistle and carry it on your keychain
to alert a wide area that you are in trouble, it is louder and more effective
than screaming.

 

8) Purchase OC CS Pepper Spray that also contains an
ultraviolet dye that will remain on the attacker for up to 72 hours. You should
purchase new pepper spray every two years.
