Make Your New Year’s Resolution Now
Volunteer at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum
The Southern Food and Beverage Museum needs volunteers for the following areas.
SoFAB GIFT SHOP
Duties:
• Being pleasant;
• Operating the cash register;
• Operating the credit card machine;
• Learning a little about the merchandise so it can be explained to customers;
• Learning a little about the exhibitions so they can be explained to museum-goers;
• Helping create retail displays;
• And being pleasant.
Shifts are negotiable but should be at least two hours in duration. Volunteers receive a 10 percent discount on merchandise and get to work with some fun people in a newly created cultural institution.
Also, if you know of anyone who makes or creates Southern food related products, let us know.
SoFAB LIBRARY
SoFAB has a library of more than 6,000 volumes to date with more books rolling in each week. Many of the books are catalogued already. We need someone to catalog the remaining books.
Cataloging is relatively simple. We use a computer program and when the ISBN number is entered, most of the remaining information such as title, author, publisher, etc, pops up, automatically filling the form. However, for other books, especially older ones, the information must be entered.
Other duties involve sorting through the books, determining which area they go to, that kind of thing. It can be fairly fun for the right persons.
A sharp person can whip our library into shape in no time.
CARPENTRY PEOPLE
SoFAB needs help in creating a spiffy bookshelf that will showcase the highlights of the cookbook and menu collection. This should be a snap for someone who knows their way around power tools and wood.
Also, we need to create some fun displays – things like a four-foot fork, for example. We pay for the materials.
PROGRAMMING PERSON
SoFAB needs help in creating dynamic programming – music, book signings, lectures, stuff for kids, birthday parties, etc.
We are looking for an extremely well organized programming person who understands food and food events, and who knows the basic of event planning. Much of this volunteer post can be performed from home. Great for a retired person.
We’ve got some good stuff happening. Come and join us.
